Four steps. Nothing is owed until the State Controller has approved and paid you.

The estate you selected

Brown Roger Probate estate · Butte County Reported Estates County · Case 22PR-00055
$301.52

The State’s record names these heirs: McNeil Shannon, McNeil Joseph, McNeil Rocky, Tramondo Kevin. If you are one of them, or descended from one, say so below.

Fees on probated estates are not capped by the ten per cent rule that covers ordinary unclaimed property. We will quote you a fixed percentage in writing before you sign anything — why the rules differ.

Nothing is owed until the State Controller has paid you. If we recover nothing, you owe nothing.

Who is claiming?

This is the single most useful thing you can tell us. Records are filed under whatever the bank typed, not what you would type.

Proving you lived at the address on the record is usually the sticking point. An old address you remember is worth more here than your current one.

Do not send identity documents yet. Once the claim is open you get a private, passwordless link where you can upload them safely.

How a Claim Runs

1

Search

We check the state database under every spelling of your name, plus maiden names, initials and former addresses.

2

Verify

We tell you exactly which documents prove the claim is yours — the list differs by property type and by who is claiming.

3

Notarize

Claims over $1,000 in cash, all securities and all safe deposit boxes must be notarized. We are a commissioned California notary.

4

Receive

The State Controller pays you directly. Our fee is invoiced only after that payment reaches you.

Before You Commit to Anything

California Code of Civil Procedure §1582 requires that we give you a written disclosure of the property and its value before you sign any fee agreement, and it bars us from collecting a fee before the Controller has approved and paid your claim. You will see the disclosure first, always.

How You Are Protected

Our fee is capped at ten per cent of what is recovered by Code of Civil Procedure §1582, and nothing is owed until the State Controller has paid you. If we recover nothing, you owe nothing. Our recovery fee is never asked for up front — it comes out of money the Controller has already paid you. A booking deposit on an in-person appointment is a separate thing, and is credited back against anything you are charged.

California Unclaimed Property Services is a private asset recovery firm. We are not the California State Controller’s Office.
